The leak of the supposed Duke Nukem Forever 2001 build was shared via 4chan by a user known as ‘x0r,’ as reported by. Now it has appeared online and it has been suggested that the leak is real. However, hardcore fans of Duke Nukem have wondered more what happened to the build that was shown in 2001. There’s plenty to talk about in regards to what happened. Long development and a number of other factors turned a pretty good-looking shooter shown at E3 2001 into a butchered mess by the time it released in 2011. Shortly after the video and its related screencaps made the rounds, former Duke Nukem Forever project lead George Broussard confirmed its apparent authenticity on Twitter, telling fans that 'the leak looks real.' He said that while it may be playable, it shouldn't be looked at as a game, 'just a smattering of barely populated test levels.Duke Nukem Forever is one of the longest drawn-out tragedies in the history of the FPS genre. (Optimistic retro gamers may want to pillage their closets for spare GeForce 6600 XT GPUs, just in case.) Though this week's video only includes three demonstrated guns (pistol, shotgun, semi-automatic rifle), the leaker suggested that nearly all options in the video's weapons-list interface are functional, with the exception of 'the chainsaw and the freezer.' It's unclear if the game files have been manually patched to work on modern PCs or whether interested players will need to pull out era-appropriate PCs with proper drivers, OSes, and hardware.
